What's New for the 2022 Ford Explorer?
The Explorer has been a top pick among SUV shoppers for several decades, and it is now more impressive than ever before, thanks to several updates in the 2022 model. The three-row Explorer benefited from an expansive refresh in 2020 when its sixth generation debuted, and the updates have continued. There are several minor updates to the availability of features throughout the trim line, and there are a few other notable changes. For example, the ST trim level is now available with rear-wheel drive. The ST trim level and higher-level options are outfitted with a 3.0-liter turbo, V6, 400-horsepower engine. This is associated with a sports suspension system and paddle shifters. Other trim levels have a 2.3-liter turbo, four-cylinder, 300-horsepower engine. This is linked with a 10-speed auto transmission and rear-wheel drive.
Another update is the introduction of the ST-Line trim level. The current trim lineup includes the base Explorer, the Limited, the ST-Line, the Timberline, the ST, the King Ranch, and the Platinum. The ST-Line adds equipment like 20-inch wheels, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, a wireless device charging pad, voice controls for the navigation system, simulated leather upholstery, and black accents. The base-level Explorer has equipment like a power liftgate, a tri-zone auto climate control system, an 8-inch touch display screen, smartphone app integration, trailer sway control, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, etc. If you stop above the ST-Line trim level, your Explorer may also come with an automated parking system, rear auto braking, a more expansive sound system, massaging front seats, a 10.1-inch touch display screen, wood accents, and more.
The exterior of the 2022 Ford Explorer is unchanged from the previous model year. This midsize crossover has an extended profile with deep, angled accents through its side panels and flat angles across its profile. Most trims have a chrome-enhanced, hexagonal grille. All trims show off LED-capped headlights and black molding from bumper to bumper.
