In a search for a functional full-size truck that is outfitted well from bumper to bumper, it is easy to narrow down the options to the Ford F-150 and the GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. These trucks are both available with different cabin configurations, several powertrain options, and other thoughtful variations. The F-150's sticker price is slightly below the GMC Sierra 1500's price. What are their other essential differences?

Exterior

The F-150 is the entry-level truck in Ford's popular F-Series line. This line is more than 70 years old and is in its 13th generation. The Sierra, on the other hand, shares its platform with the Chevy Silverado. Its fifth generation was introduced during the 2019 model year. The F-150's exterior has a classic yet modern appeal. The grille continues to spread across most of the front end, and it is capped on both sides by stacked LED headlights. The grille design, coloring, and wheel options vary by trim. The F-150 has confident ground clearance and height, and its exterior is defined by subtle, molded definition over otherwise smooth surfaces on the hood and sides. The 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 has a comparable profile and similar surfaces on the hood and sides. Its grille shape and patterns are notably different, and the headlights that cap the sides of the grille have a C-shaped light ribbon. The lower-front fascia also has pentagon-shaped foglamp ports.

Interior

Cabin configurations that accommodate between three and six passengers are offered for the F-150 and the GMC Sierra 1500. Across the trim lines, you can find options for both models that have heated seats, memory settings, a panoramic sunroof, and a digital driver's gauge screen. The F-150's center stack has a towering presence with a large infotainment system screen embedded between two sizable air vents. These side pieces extend straight down into the center console to create an enlarged look throughout the stack. The GMC Sierra 1500's has a comparably wide center stack, and an infotainment system screen mated with two towering air vents. The metallic accent feature that runs up and down through the center stack flows inward to separate the air vents from the center stack.

Performance

Various powertrains are offered with both of these full-size trucks. The most powerful engine available for the 2020 Ford F-150 is a 5.0-liter, V8 Ti-VCT engine that delivers 395 horsepower. In comparison, the top engine available for the GMC Sierra 1500 truck is a 5.3-liter, V8 EcoTec engine that produces 335 horsepower. When you compare the performance ratings for these top two powertrains, you will see that the F-150 also has superior torque functionality.
