Are you trying to decide between buying the 2020 Ford F-150 XL and the XLT? These are the entry-level trims in the current F-150 line. While they are close siblings, they have substantial differences that you should be aware of. The first difference that you may notice is their base MSRP. Several thousand dollars divide these two trim levels. What are the other significant differences between these two trim levels?

Performance

These vehicles have the same standard powertrain, and most of the same options, the base engine is a Ti-VCT V6, a 3.3-liter gas engine linked to a 10-speed auto transmission. Optional V6 engines available for both trim levels are a 2.7-liter EcoBoost and a 3.5-liter EcoBoost. A 5.0-liter, V8 engine is also optional for the XL, and the XLT trims. Notably, the XLT has one additional powertrain option that is not offered with the XL. This is a 3.0-liter, V6 Power Stroke turbo-diesel engine.

Appearance

For 2020, both the XL and the XLT have new appearance packages, but their defining features are unique. For example, the XL has a black grille and black bumpers on the front and rear. These features are chrome on the XLT. They share a C-shaped headlight design, 17-inch to 20-inch wheels, a 170-degree rear door; an assist step, fog lamps, and several other exterior features.

Features

Across all of the 2020 trims, the F-150 now has a wireless hotspot as a standard feature. The XL and XLT share many interior features. Some of these are manual climate controls, a 2.3-inch productivity screen, a day-night rear mirror, power outlets, a sound system, etc. The XLT has a few standard features that are not included in the XL. These standard features are MyKey, cruise control, power door locks, SYNC 3, and other equipment.
