2020 Ford Escape vs 2019 Ford Escape

Serving Wellington, OH

The fourth-generation Ford Escape, which was introduced in April of 2019, will begin with the 2020 model year. This means that the 2020 Ford Escape is completely redesigned with a new interior/exterior, changes to the powertrain, and the return of the hybrid option. The Ford Escape, which has been in production since the 2020 model year, remains one of the most popular SUV models on the United States market, despite seeing a dip in sales in 2018-2019. In 2017, the models best year, Ford sold an astonishing 308,296 Escapes in the United States alone. Ford is looking to get back on track in the sales department with the all-new 2020 Ford Escape. So how does the 2020 model differ from the 2019 model?

Performance

The base engine for the Ford Escape is suitable in both model years in question, but a change was made for the 2020 model year. The base engine for the 2019 Ford Escape is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces up to 168 horsepower. The new base engine for 2020 is a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine that produces up to 180 horsepower. The unique base engine is more efficient and powerful than its predecessor, but both engines are competitive compared to the base engine of other models in the same class. The 2020 Ford Escape will also feature an optional 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces up to 250 horsepower. The impressive powertrain combinations on the all-new 2020 Ford Escape gets the slight nod over the available options of the 2019 model year.

Appearance

The exterior of the Ford Escape saw some significant changes between the 2019 and 2020 model years. The all-new Ford Escape is built more like a hatchback model than an SUV model, which is favorable to many. The 2020 Ford Escape sits lower and is slightly smaller than its predecessor. Your opinion of the exterior design of these two models is likely going to come down to preference more than anything else, as the 2019 model fits the SUV mold a little better than the 2020 model does.

Features

The 2019 Ford Escape’s standard safety features are limited to a rearview camera and the MyKey system, which is the same as the TeenDriver system found on many other SUV models. In the 2020 model year, Ford extended this list to include automated emergency braking, a collision warning system, lane-keep assistance, and more. Since there are more standard safety features on the 2020 Ford Escape, most buyers will opt into this model over the 2019 model, if these features matter to them.

The infotainment system received considerable improvements for the 2020 model year. Aside from the base trim, the 2020 Ford Escape will come with an eight-inch touchscreen display (12.3-inch display optional) and tons of features such as a WiFi hotspot, an available premium sound system, navigation, and more. Also, the 2020 Ford Escape has available smartphone integration that is capable of locking/unlocking your car and checking for maintenance needs.
