2024 Ford Explorer vs 2023 Ford Explorer

Serving Wellington, OH

The popular Ford Explorer garnered the attention of SUV shoppers several decades ago, and its appeal as a stylish, practical vehicle extends through today. In 2020, Ford launched the Explorer's sixth generation with a fresh look and extensive updates to its features. Additional updates have been introduced since that time, but no improvements have been made between the 2023 and 2024 model years. What can you expect from your new Ford Explorer?

Performance

Two gas engines are available across the trim levels for 2023 and 2024, and select trims are also available with an optional hybrid engine. The base gas system is a 2.3-liter, four-cylinder, 300-horsepower system. The other gas powertrain is a turbo 3.0-liter, V6, 400-horsepower engine. The hybrid system includes a V6, 3.3-liter engine, and delivers 318 horsepower. Across all trims, a 10-speed auto transmission is standard. Every trim except the Timberline makes you choose between rear-wheel and all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is standard for the Explorer Timberline.

Appearance

The 2023 and 2024 Explorer SUVs are identical, but the trim levels have subtle differences in exterior features. Overall, the Explorer is defined by a lean, flowing design with angled accents streaming across the sides and a slanted roof. At the front, the LED-enhanced, horizontal headlights connect to the laced mesh grille. The front end also has rectangular air vents mounted in small, black ports. The entry-level trim comes with a power liftgate and 18-inch alloy wheels. Some of the available or standard features in higher trim levels are auto high beams, roof rails, keyless access, heated side mirrors with a power-folding function, 20-inch wheels, and others.

Features

The available features for the 2023 Explorer are identical to those available in the 2024 model year. The Explorer's base-level features a six-speaker sound system, a wireless hotspot, remote engine start, an 8-inch touch display screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, lane departure mitigation, rear parking sensors, a blind-spot warning, and others. The Explorer's higher trims may also come with heated seats, more USB ports, second-row captain's chairs, a wireless device charger, a surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, a navigation system, evasive steering assistance, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a surround-view camera and more.
